Thanks to Jeff and Cecilia Assaf, Access Medical and the Beanstalk Foundation, a wonderful young man has a shot at an exceptional life. Jacob, who has struggled with Atheoid Cerebral Palsy since birth, has dreamt of going to college and one day becoming an opera conductor. Stuck in the middle of laws, red tape, insurance and a need for financial assistance, it looked like a chair that would let him function normally was well out of reach. We have given Jacob’s his wings in the form of wheels to gain his independence and become an active participant in the real world. His chair has given him the independence we all take for granted.
As a community we now have the opportunity to sit back and watch a young man soar. Jacob’s chair will enable him to do great things with his life. We will all be fortunate enough to be the benefactors of the music he creates, and the joy he brings to our lives. He has a brilliant mind and can now do so much more.
Sixteen-year-old Jacob was diagnosed with Atheoid Cerebral Palsy. He has been medically fragile since birth with respiratory distress syndrome, unknown mitochondrial disorder, abnormal small kidneys, and quadriplegic gross and fine motor range from 3-9 months. All of his doctors describe him as being trapped in his body like Stephen Hawking the physicist.
While Jacob is physically limited, his intelligence and desire for knowledge far surpasses that of most people. Unfortunately, due to his physical limitations and the fact that he is in a manual wheelchair he is no longer able to attend school in a normal setting. Our goal is to get Jacob into a Baulder electric chair that will give him the ability to attend high school and college. Most importantly, he will gain an independence that he has been physically denied since birth.
After discounts through Access Medical and a donation by the owner himself, Jacob’s family was still in need of roughly $11,000. Our goal is to find the money to pay for Jacob’s chair. Beanstalk is in the business of helping others, and while this is different from projects it has done in the past, it is willing to work to make this individual project a reality.
We have found an individual donor, Jeff Assaf, that has a heart for this cause and in partnership with Beanstalk, is willing to fund the money needed to help Jacob.
With a grant from Jeff and Cecilia Assaf for $10000 and a $1000 Beanstalk Grant, we've made the grade!
