Let's Land a Mimio Board!

Help us make the student-teacher experience at Crow Canyon more tech-savvy.

6.18.12 - Today, Deb's Challenge closed. It was a brilliant success, even exceeding the original goal! Thank you so much to each and every donor, and to anyone and everyone who spread the word! We'll update you with information, photos, and possibly video too, about the Mimio Board system in action as soon as it is available.

The Challenge

Come together to buy a Mimio Board teaching system to benefit Crow Canyon Archaeological Center teachers and students!

How Much?

$4196.00

Deadline

June 14, 2012

At Crow Canyon Archeological Center, our educational philosophy grounded in the belief that everybody’s history matters. Our teaching style is based on interaction between teachers and students engaged in direct experience, so we are asking for your help to purchase us an interactive, fully integrated whiteboard (called a Mimio) to enhance our instructional and learning environments.

With the Mimio board we’ll be able to enhance our instructional capabilities as well as students’ ability to apply their learning. One of our modules titled “Windows Into the Past” teaches archaeology and chronology by asking students to sort replica artifacts to reconstruct Pueblo prehistory in the Mesa Verde region of southwestern Colorado. The Mimio would allow instructors and students to record their observations, set up the timeline, modify it, and count the ‘votes’ for which groups of artifacts are earliest and which are latest, making the entire classroom experience more involving and fun.

Using the same technology, the instructor could show short films about different artifacts, and assess students’ learning using the recordkeeping capability. The Mimio and its accessories are outstanding teaching and assessment tools that will offer Crow Canyon educators and learners the opportunity to understand and apply real world archaeological concepts to their everyday worlds.

Textbooks try really hard to convey history, or even the present, in a detailed and clear way that leaves the reader better informed than when they started. The problem is that the text can only tell one side of the story.
